Nick’s ears perked up as he heard his name being called by his girlfriend, and he stuffed the velvet box back in his pocket as he trotted into the den to see a desperate look on her face. “Can we go to our spot? The sun’s about to set.” She’s making this far too easy on him. Nick chuckled to himself, agreeing to her sideways plea, “Sure. Lemme grab my guitar.” She giggled, giddy maybe, because she always gets that way when Nick has to bring his guitar somewhere. Either it’s for inspiration or a simple serenade. But Nick knew that this would be different, whether she expected it or not. She and Nick drove in a comforting silence, the serenity filled with the radio as Nick parked at their favorite place, a lonely dock out on the ocean that might have been discovered, but no one is there when they happen to be there. And, as if just up Nick’s ally, no one was there tonight. Forgetting the guitar on purpose, he grabbed his girlfriend’s hand and didn’t walk, but ran down the wooden binded structure. The sun was balancing on the water horizon. This is just too easy, Nick thought. “Ah, we just made it.” she said. She’s totally oblivious, this is great. Nick cuddled her close, closing his fist around his prize as he threw a lazy arm around her shoulder, feeling her tiny arms around his waist. Here it goes. “Gina?” Nick question with a wicked smile that she can’t see. “Hmm?” she asked. “There’s something on my hand, mind getting it for me?” She’s still oblivious as she pulls on one of Nick’s fingers, taking the circular object from his hand and freezing when she really sees what it is. “What’s that?” Nick asked, being a total clueless man. Nick can’t see her expression, so he took the ring back in his hand, setting down his left knee to the boardwalk and holding the ring to her finger, “What do you say? Spend forever with me?” he asked. It was a simple command. She started to tear up as she gasped with happiness, “Yes.”
