He knew Bailey was a talker, cause people had told him so, but he didn’t actually want to believe it. But now, after speaking over the phone for 50 minutes about her sisters desperate attempt to get one outfit together for ‘a hopeless boy’, Nick just about had to grow an extra ear. Occasionally he had thrown in the “yeah’s” and the “uh-huh’s” and the oh-so-rare “I understand” but deep down he knew he loved her. Even if she did talk a lot. “I’m listening.” Nick defended, a quick move to save his pride. “Whatever. Are we still going to dinner?” Nick had almost forgot, and with a swift glance at his watch he shoved the phone between his ear and shoulder, “Um…yeah. Absolutely.” He heard her laugh. That wasn’t a nice laugh. It was sarcastic;fake. “You forgot didn’t you.” Nick’s voice climbed an octave, shoving his nice button down shirt over his white v-neck, “I did not. I was…going to pick you flowers.” She sighed, and Nick mentally kicked himself as he thought that over. Pick flowers? “I mean buy you flowers. I don’t know how ‘pick’ came out instead of ‘buy’.” Nick heard her airy, choppy laugh, showing him that he was clear until she turned totally serious and said, “I’ll expect yellow roses.” And when he thought she had hung up, she let out a huge laugh that bubbled from her lips, and Nick could just vision her in the middle of a store, her brown hair tumbling over her shoulders as she lifted her head back to laugh; the way her blue eyes moved like waves in the ocean as she laughed, all making Nick love her more. “I’ll come pick you up, you know, save you from ‘Monstrosity’.” She sighed, relief filling the receiver, “You’re a lifesaver, you really are.” Nick shrugged, knowing she couldn’t see, “No biggie.”
